On this page you will find a daily update (also emailed to you), a weekly plan and links to the resources you will need to support you and your child with their remote education. All resources have been sent by email and Class Dojo.

Daily email communication

Dear Parents/Carers of Maple Class
Please see attached the remote learning support for Friday 5th March. As you will see the day is split into live teaching via Zoom and independent tasks. Please click the Zoom link at the specified times to take part in the live teaching. Attached to this email are any supporting resources your child might like to use.

Daily Challenge

This is an independent task that you can complete to get you thinking.  This should take no more than 10 minutes.

Write for 5 minutes, no more and no less! Use the image as your inspiration and remember to show not tell.

English

LO: To make deliberate use of simple nouns and pronouns.

Resources required:

Newspaper report template

Your child is invited to take part in our live teaching of this session. Please follow the below Zoom link to join us at 9.15 am. 

This session is expected to last around 30 minutes. Your child can then do the independent tasks.

In today’s lesson we will be summarising the events of the story so far and discussing the main events in reference to Who? What? When? And Where?

For your independent task you will be writing a report for a school newspaper about the recent events in the story.  You are welcome to use the template I have provided.

Remember to include:

  • The name of the newspaper
  • A catchy headline
  • A brief introductory paragraph including the 5 W’s
  • Facts
  • Eyewitness statements
  • The name of the reporter.

Mathematics

LO: To calculate fractions of an amount 

Recourses required:

  1.   Calculate fractions of an amount Teaching Video.
  2.  Calculate fractions of an amount worksheet.
  3. Reasoning and Problem-Solving worksheet.

This session is expected to last around 20 minutes. Your child can then do the independent tasks.

Watch the teaching video pausing at the appropriate times to practise the questions.

Once you have done that, I would like you to complete questions on the White Rose worksheet.

If you finish those, please then have a go at the reasoning and problem-solving questions.

Spelling

LO: To practise and apply ‘ch’, ‘ph’, and ‘sc’ spellings. 

This is an independent lesson the children can complete and should take no more than 20 minutes.

In today’s lesson you will be practising and applying your knowledge of ‘ch’, ‘ph’ and ‘sc’ spellings.

Whole Class Reading

LO: To compare similarities and differences between accounts of events. 

Resource required:

Boy in the tower worksheet

Your child is invited to take part in our live teaching of this session. Please follow the below Zoom link to join us at 10.35 am.

This session is expected to last around 30 minutes. Your child can then do the independent tasks.

At the start of the lesson, you will have the opportunity to read your account of events from the previous day’s English lesson.  We will then continue to read the Boy in the Tower, focusing on Ade’s account.

For your independent task you are going to compare Ade’s version with your own and list your similarities and differences.

PSHE

LO: To reflect on the return to school. 

This is an independent lesson the children can complete and should take no more than 30 minutes.

For your independent task this afternoon, I would like you to think about the fact that you will be returning to school on Monday.  I’m sure you will have a lot of thoughts, emotions and questions that you will want to share.

I have included some activities for you to choose from, you do not need to complete them all.

To support your child with accessing the remote learning, the school are able to provide families with Chromebooks and access to the internet. If you need any technical support, please call the school or email Miss Bedford ebedford@stlukes.cambs.sch.uk.
